Welcome To My Sahara Research Website, Dedicated To All Things Saharan.
In it you will hopefully find some interesting links.
This website is still under construction but is updated regularly.
My Background
I first travelled to the Sahara Desert in 2000 as an archeaologist and researcher, my travelling companions were three extraordinary people - seasoned travellers with over 45 years travel in the Sahara between them. Two of them are based in the Pyrennees, the organisation they are involved in is LA RAHLA. On this trip we’d arranged to meet up with two archaeologists, Alfred Muzzolini and JEAN-LUIC LEQUELLEC. Some publications by Muzzolini are found HERE.
Before this time I travelled and worked in southern Africa, conducting surveys and excavation work in Zambia in 1995 with Dr Lawrence Barham, now at the University of Liverpool. He has published a number of articles, and this one is from the 1993/4 SEASON is a good basic background. He has published this one too; MUMBWA CAVES. In 1996 I was based and worked with Peter Beaumont, now retired, at Kimberley Museum and its satellites in North Cape Province and at WONDERWERK CAVE an early hominid site. From here I made the leap from Southern African to North African research and t his is where I reside now.
One of the aims of this website is to raise awareness of the multi-dimensionality of all things.
It might appear that this diverse subject and all the other following pages on this website do not appear linked in any way, but they are, very much so - indeed, to fully appreciate the interconnectedness of all things, one must first acknowledge that each of us has a ‘created presence’ on this earth, whichever way we look at ourselves, and each is connected to all other living species. In our human existence there is purpose and potential; humanity is at the pinnacle of its physical evolution here on earth, and is an entity in its own right.
No-one can really say that we each know what our true destiny is - our futures in 3D reality are unrecorded; if you are a firm believer in evolutionary Origin of Species then nothing else will apply, and to you, physical evolution is limited. We cannot simply decide to become another species and fly or swim away, either leaving our human selves behind or denying our unique heritage.
Plato, in his REPUBLIC speaks of us existing within a cave - a metaphor, that we all live in a cave in an unenlightened state and hence do not know what is outside our internally-generated or created, reality, without any recourse to any higher-thinking processes; in short we effectively remain in an unevolved state with our reasoning and imagination faculties on par with early man. The societal ideologies spoken about by Plato reflected the times he found himself in. The ‘Enlightenment’ was a long way in the future at the time he lived. However he, like his contemporaries existed in chaotic changing times.
My Kind of Research
As an independent researcher there are two ways of being me; either one takes the conventional route, or the unconventional one. If someone were to ask me why I chose the second path, then it would present me with an awkward way of explaining why I do what I do. To me it not surprising that I come at this from a particular perspective that concerns itself, for the most part, with the nature of reality, and our multi-dimensionality.
It did come as a bit of a surprise when it became apparent that it was no longer possible for me to believe the nature of my reality, as lived, day-to-day by the likes of me, is not multi-dimensional in nature; thus the subject of my research is multi-dimensionality in all its chaotic forms, it has to be.
The shock was finding how this peculiar vision of life first exhibited itself during a series of childhood traumas; the realisation that this would change how I looked at reality was not immediately apparent.
There was never a time whereby I felt like any normal kid, I remember being a kid, but the concept I had, as a child, was that my ‘normality’ was not normal at all.
For many years I fought a loosing battle between what I thought was reality and what was not. Parents generally have the annoying habit of tearing these dimensions apart, in order for you to become like everybody else. Luckily for me, one of mine shared the same ideas.... But there are limits to what can be achieved by this battle of Wills for your soul; Eventually I chose the alternative path, so now I write from the perspective of being an outsider, on the periphery. Its a kind of ostracising of a soul, whereby I now look at life from the outside looking in, not the other way around, as I used to.
So, the intention of this website (if I’m doing my job right) is to get those of you who visit, to hang around a bit, and begin asking questions.
Here on these pages you will hopefully find a a diverse presentation of Sahara Desert material; relevant information on Wildlife, Environmental Conservation, World Heritage in the Sahara, Archaeology & Prehistory, Folklore & Myth and much more.
Research articles will appear here in due course.
