CAMPING:

TENT, SLEEPING BAG, MATTRESS ETC

Three-season sleeping bag (minimum temperature -5 °C, in December an January -10 °C), and additional ground sheet. Note that Thermarest-type inflatable mattresses are vulnerable to thorns and sand in the valve, a closed-cell karrimat, or segmented (concertinered) mattress may be less bother.

A mosquito net.

A sleeping bag liner (washable).

A small pillowcase that can be stuffed with smalls to double up as a pillow.

Inflatable neck cushion with washable cover.

A tent will be useful for windy nights, or when the sand is whipped up. Additionally, you will appreciate it’s shelter and privacy to retire sometimes.

If you don't have your own tent, our Algerian Agency working with us can provide one for a 14 Euros supplement per tour.  Maximum weight of all your baggage, including day pack and camera gear, is 20kg. Please limit your complete baggage to this maximum. For all other luggage carried in the vehicles, the maximum allowed baggage per person is 20kg because of space limitations, and this includes camera equipment.

A small day pack of maximum 12-15 litres capacity (no more) should be  ideal for all your day-to- day use items: water, cameras, snacks, extra clothing etc (Bearing in mind weight for weight an extre litre of any liquid equals an extra kg in weight)

The best type of holdall to carry your stuff are soft materials that can be moulded around other things, or that can be strapped down on the roof safely.  Heavy, wheely-type suitcases will not be tolerated! Nor will golf-club size holdalls, or anything with sharp edges.

Your travel bag or rucksack will be carried on YOU during the day, so only take the barest minimum out with you in the day (there is nothing worse than setting out for a day’s hike thinking your light-weight rucksack packed that morning will be suitable - and finding that within an hour into the walk your shoulders and back are complaining!).
