Geneaology, or searching for my family roots, and those icons of the family who originally came from Eastern Europe and Germany is a long-term, almost obsessional project. For over 12 years I’ve been researching for leads and links to all the important and relevant places for me and my family.

Eastern Europe, Poland to be precise, is a next port of call.  The idea is I spend some quality time in one of the primary countries of my ancestry, and then the Germany I remember so clearly from my childhood.

Diverse histories are full of skeletons that tumble out of wardrobes and cupboards, and diverse cultural traits, together with the conventional religions, and sometimes unusual belief systems that influenced the family made an enormous impact on my impressional youth. Elements that have continued to mould me to this day.  I’m proud that I’ve got such a diverse ancestry!

The following links seem only to support UK/British Isles ancestors; most have a subscription service and the freebies are not that good; be prepared to pay for subscription membership.  I’ve tried to collect the ones that for me, are the best and the most straightforward and concise.

I haven’t found any relevant worthwhile ones for me to pursue my own family tree in Europe, so anybody out there who might be able to help, please email me on RENATE here at Desertfoxoverland, or HERE. 

Ones that might have provided a lead, they’re American-orientated; for me a waste of time, since my particular branch of the family didn’t leave Europe for the New World. 

My family are bound by European parameters but in some ways this makes it more difficult for me as a researcher.
